Why Paleo Hot Chocolate?
If you are a veteran of the Paleo diet, you know the benefits of primarily eating simple, nutrient dense foods.
Because of the stevia sweetness , dark chocolate, and collagen protein factor, this drink nips sugar cravings in the bud immediately!
In a nutshell, the Paleo Diet takes us back to a basic, whole foods diet like our ancestors used to eat before processed foods were widely available. Foods in their original, untouched forms are emphasized.
Now, this Paleo hot chocolate certainly wouldn’t be found by ancient man when hunting and gathering.
But, that’s the beauty of living in 2021— we have a variety of ingredients available at the click of a button.
This recipe still sticks to basic, clean ingredients, which makes it Paleo friendly.
Simple Ingredients
This hot chocolate is so simple and easy! The only ingredients you need are almond milk (or another milk alternative), raw organic cocoa powder, and chocolate collagen.
Non Dairy Milk
This recipe requires a milk alternative. I use almond milk because it is low in calories and carbs and also has a smooth flavor. I typically buy the Silk brand that has added vanilla.
This Paleo hot chocolate can also be made with sugar free coconut milk, cashew milk, etc.
Raw Cacao Powder
This healthy cocoa elixir really needs a quality raw cacao powder.
You’ll need a lovely cocoa powder, and not all are created equal. My favorite brand is Volupta Organic Fair Trade Cocoa Powder. We get the 32 oz bags from Costco and you can also order it here.
Vital Proteins Chocolate Collagen (The Secret Ingredient)
I have discovered a wonderful way to enjoy collagen: mix it into hot cocoa!
Vital Proteins Chocolate Collagen is so delicious when blended into this drink. I order mine from amazon and it usually lasts me about a month.
The mix is stevia sweetened and adds the right touch of indulgence to the drink. Wonderful news- stevia is Paleo friendly!
