Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice Blend

I was whipping up a batch of my delicious sourdough pumpkin scones when I noticed my pumpkin spice was running low. I quickly realized, however, that I had all the ingredients to throw together my own small batch pumpkin pie spice recipe

This easy recipe will save you a trip to the grocery store when baking fall goodies like muffins and quick bread. It’s so simple to make and stores as well in an airtight container.

Ingredients

Check the expiration dates on individual spices before mixing the spices together. To get the most out of your custom blend you will want to use fresh spices. You will need:

  • 3 TBSP ground cinnamon
  • 2 TSP ground ginger
  • 1 TSP ground cloves
  • 1.5 TSP ground nutmeg
  • 1 TSP ground allspice
  • Black pepper (just a tiny pinch!) *optional

How To Make Your Own Pumpkin Pie Spice

Add all of the ingredients to a small bowl.  Whisk well with a fork or small whisk, making sure all clumps are broken up.

Storage

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 1-2 years!  Make sure to store in a cool, dry place for best results. 

Uses

You can use this seasonal blend in any recipe that calls for pumpkin pie spice. Simply substitute the same amount of your custom homemade blend for the amount that is called for in the recipe, in a one-to-one ratio!

Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice Recipe

This easy homemade pumpkin pie spice will save you a trip to the store! Made with fresh spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice, this DIY spice can last for 2 years!

Equipment

  • 1 small bowl
  • 1 jar with lid for storage

Ingredients
  

  • 3 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp ground allspice
  • 1 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1.5 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper optional

Instructions
 

  • In a small bowl, whisk together all of the spices with a fork or small whisk until all clumps are removed and spices are blended.
    3 tbsp ground cinnamon , 2 tsp ground ginger, 1 tsp ground allspice , 1 tsp ground nutmeg, 1.5 tsp ground cloves, 1/8 tsp black pepper
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature.

Notes

  • Black pepper is optional but adds that kick of flavor to pumpkin spice. 
  • To get the most out of your blend, use fresh spices.
