Special Tools
If you want to include some star shaped fruit, you will need a small star cookie cutter. I have this set of cookie cutters, here are a few more ideas.
Tips
- The lemon juice adds flavor but also preserves the whiteness of the pears. Make sure to use it!
- Gently mix the fruit to prevent bruising
- Chill the fruit prior to making for an extra cold, refreshing fruit salad!
- Substitute the pears for crisp apples if desired.
How To Make Red White And Blue Fruit Salad
Tip: Soak all fruit in a fruit and vegetable wash before starting the salad.
This easy recipe is a simple as one, two, three!
Slice Strawberries: First, remove the strawberry stems and quarter the fruit and place in a large bowl.
Skin Pears: Skin the pears, then slice the sides so you have a flat surface. Use your knife to slice off large sections of the pears, then use the star shaped cookie cutter to cut out star shaped pear slices. Chop up any remaining pear and add to the salad.
Add blueberries + lemon: Add the blue berries to the bowl. Pour the lemon juice over the salad and gently mix with a spatula.

This salad is best consumed fresh or within a couple of hours of making. You can store leftover fruit in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to two days. Keep in mind the pear may turn yellow or brown.
