Ingredients + Notes

There’s nothing crazy or unexpected about this ingredient list, you may have everything you need in your pantry already.

For the best results, use the highest quality and freshest ingredients that you can.

Ingredients:

  • Flour
  • Baking Soda
  • Baking Powder
  • Salt
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla
  • White Sugar
  • Light Brown Sugar: Light brown sugar has a light, sweet caramel flavor
  • Softened Butter (salted or non salted): I set my butter on the counter in the morning, at least 3 hours prior to making the recipe to make sure it’s soft.
  • Chocolate Chips: We use one cup of mini chocolate chips and one cup of regular chocolate chips. This is our favorite combo, but you can use whatever your favorite is!
  • Finishing Sea Salt- This is our secret ingredient! We love sprinkling these cookies with finishing sea salt as soon as they come out of the oven. The tang of the sea salt perfectly compliments the sweet cookie! I use this brand from Amazon.

How To Make The Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

Set your oven to 375 prior to starting your dough.

First, mix all the dry ingredients. Make sure your baking soda does not clump together, and whisk the salt, baking soda, and baking powder into the flour thoroughly.

In a separate bowl, blend the butter and two types of sugar with either a hand or stand mixer (both work just fine). Make sure to pack the brown sugar into the cup.

Add the vanilla, then add in the eggs one at a time. Beat well.

Now, it’s time to add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients.

We add the flour a little bit at a time to avoid a big explosion of flour (it’s happened a time or two). Mix the wet and dry ingredients until combined, giving you a nice, crumbly dough that is not too wet or dry.

Here is a photo of the perfect dough:

Next up is the fun part: the chocolate chips! Add in two cups of chocolate chips and stir until just combined. My kids like to fight over this job. Isn’t the dough pretty?

Prepare your baking sheet with parchment paper or a cookie mat.

Scoop out the dough and place the cookies about two inches apart on your pan. (You want a little room for each cookie to spread).

We use this cookie dough scoop for perfectly shaped cookies that bake evenly, but you can drop by rounded tablespoonfuls as well.

Depending on your specific oven temperature, these cookies will need to bake for 8-10 minutes. Remove the cookies from the oven when they look almost done but are still just a little doughy in the middle.

Taking the cookies out of the oven a little bit early is important in order to get that extra soft texture. The edges may start to lightly brown, but the cookie should not be fully baked.

For gooey cookies, don’t overbake!

When the pan is out of the oven, sprinkle the cookies with finishing salt. This step is optional, but we think sea salt makes these cookies taste magically gourmet and oh-so-delicious!

Let your cookies cool on the baking sheet for three minutes, then transfer them to a cooling rack.
