Spring Garden Party Ideas + Inspiration On A Budget

We created this simple yet beautiful spring garden party several years ago for two of my children who have a birthday during the same week of March.

The best part of this colorful spring inspired party is that we designed it on a budget- and we spent less than thirty dollars putting it together.

Most of these decorations were purchased at the Dollar Tree, yet the overall look is still beautiful, elegant, and colorful- just like spring!

Let’s explore all the elements of this garden party decor, you can easily adapt any of these ideas for a baby shower, tea party, or spring celebration.

Spring Garden Party Decorations

Party planning can be overwhelming and get expensive fast. I try to remember when party planning for kids that it truly is the thought that counts.

As we show here, you can create a pretty and fun party vibe on a budget. The kids will be impressed and love you for it, and many of these ideas can be used for a baby shower, tea party, or bridal shower.

Supplies

Though this party was simple, the end result was colorful and bursting with the flavors of spring. We gathered the following supplies:

Color Palette

We went with a pastel color palette featuring blues, pinks and greens, and added in gold accents for a festive highlight.

Spring is a glorious time when flowers are blooming, the trees are finally turning green, and birds are singing! From purple tulips to blue skies, spring is full of COLOR, and we wanted our garden party to reflect those vibrant spring hues.

I picked up the floral lanterns from the Dollar Tree. The butterfly wall decals were purchased on Amazon. In addition to these decorations, I used watercolors to paint birthday signs with snails and flowers on them.

Tablescape

For the table, I foraged yellow forsythia, which is an early spring bloomer. You could easily add in inexpensive bouquets of tulips, daffodils and hyacinth.

Since it was a kid’s party, I opted for a light green plastic table cloth from the Dollar Tree. We added the desserts to this table, as well as the flower cupcake tray, plates, and silverware.

Party Favors

terra cotta pots and seed packets for party favors

For party favors, we purchased tiny 4 inch terra-cotta pots and a variety of easy to grow seeds such as mini sunflowers and radishes.

These starts will eventually need to be transplanted to a flower bed to grow, but our guests really loved getting to plant their own seeds and it was an inexpensive, sustainable party favor!

We scheduled time during the party for kids to plant their own seeds, and all of the guests were eager to dig in the dirt and loved the planting process!

We also had packs of bubbles for the kids to play with (again, super inexpensive!).

Food + Desserts

For desserts, we made cupcakes from a box and decorated them with homemade green frosting. We then added faux daisies to the top to make them look like a field of flowers.

I picked up colorful French macaroons from Costco for an extra treat.

In addition to dessert we had Thai food from a local restaurant catered (that was the expensive part of the celebration!).

More Kids Garden Party Ideas

If I were planning this garden party today, I might add in a few more fun elements like:

  • Lots more fresh flowers: tulips, daffodils, pansies and primroses would be great options!
  • Gnomes would be a fun and charming touch– and can be found at the Dollar Tree
  • Spring theme coloring pages like these ones from Nature Inspired Learning

A kid’s birthday party does not have to be elaborate to be special, and I hope this simple yet colorful birthday party inspired you while you create your own garden party for your child.
