Old Fashioned Sweet and Salty Kettle Corn

This old fashioned sweet and salty kettle corn is the perfect homemade popcorn! Easy to make and inexpensive, you'll love making this gourmet popcorn for friends and family.

Equipment

  • 1 medium size pot
  • 1 glass lid for pot
  • 1 popcorn bowl

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
  • 3 single popcorn kernels for testing readiness of heat and oil
  • 2 tbsp refined coconut oil or other high heat oil
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions
 

  • Heat and melt coconut oil in pan over medium high heat. Once heated, add 3 popcorn kernels and cover with lid.
    2 tbsp refined coconut oil
  • When the 3 popcorn kernels pop, reduce heat to medium low and add the rest of the popcorn kernels to the pot. Shake to coat with oil
    3 single popcorn kernels , 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
  • Add sugar and shake to coat, then cover pot with lid.
  • Alternate shaking popcorn and resting on heat for 10 seconds at a time.
    1/4 cup sugar
  • Once popcorn has popped, remove from heat immediately, pour into a large bowl and sprinkle with sea salt. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Check size and weight of your cooking pot. Use a lightweight pan that you can shake easily.
  • Turn your heat down while cooking and shaking your popcorn.  Shake every ten seconds to prevent burning.
  • Use oven mitts if needed to pick up your pan. 
  • Don't skimp on the oil, it's needed to properly cook the popcorn.
