Heart Shaped Sugar Cookies For Valentine's Day

- 3 cups all purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract optional
In a large bowl, whisk together the baking powder, salt and flour.

Cream together the butter and sugar just until the mixture starts to pull away from the sides of the bowl in a stand mixer. You can also use a hand-held mixer for this step. 1 cup unsalted butter, 1 cup granulated sugar
Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the wet ingredients and mix until incorporated.

Add half of the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mix until combined. Then add the remaining wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
Divide the dough into two portions, shaped like flat rectangles. Wrap tightly with parchment paper or plastic and place in the fridge for at least 2 hours.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll the dough out to 1/4 quarter of an inch thick, and cut out your cookies.
Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the cookies are firm on the top. Transfer the cookies to a wire rack and let cool completely before frosting.
- Chill the dough for 2 hours for a great rolling experience.
- Use firm, even pressure on the rolling pin when rolling out the dough.
- Do not over mix the dough or the cookies may end up tough.
- If you like crispy cookies, bake them for an additional 1-2 minutes.
- Make sure to cover the baking tray with a silicon mat or parchment paper to prevent the cookies from sticking during the bake.
