Equipment

  • 1 shallow dish I use an 8x8 baking pan
  • 1 Non stick pan or cast iron skillet
  • 1 Spatula

Ingredients

  • 6 slices sourdough sandwich bread
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk *sub almond milk for dairy free
  • 1 tsp cinnamon or more, to taste
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg optional
  • butter or oil for coating pan

Instructions

  • Whisk together the milk, eggs, vanilla, and cinnamon. Make sure that all ingredients are well incorporated.
  • Preheat a cast iron or non stick pan over medium heat, and add butter to the pan to prevent the French toast from sticking.
  • Dip one side of the bread into the egg milk mixture, then flip it over and coat the other side.
  • When hot, place the French toast into the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes or until the egg is cooked and the toast is golden brown. Flip, and cook for an additional 2 minutes or until done.
  • Serve when hot and top with maple syrup and butter!

Notes

  • Make sure the pan is nice and hot before cooking the French toast.
  • You can sub almond milk in place of whole milk if need be.
  • Add in nutmeg for a warm fall flavor.
  • Adjust the vanilla flavor to taste-my husband likes to add a full tablespoon!
