These Rice Krispie Treats With Chocolate Chips On Top are the perfect chocolately, gooey treats! Filled with mini chocolate chips, vanilla, and marshmallows, you'll love these rice krispie squares.

Equipment

  • 1 9x13 baking pan other size pans will work, size affects thickness of squares.
  • 1 Large Bowl
  • 1 Spatula

Ingredients
  

  • 5 cups crispy rice cereal
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 10 ounces mini marshmallows
  • 6 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips add more or less to your preference
  • 1 tsp sea salt optional, for sprinkling on top

Instructions
 

  • Grease pan with cooking spray or butter prior to starting the recipe and set aside one cup of marshmallows to use later.

Stovetop Instructions:

  • Melt the marshmallows and butter in a large pot over medium-low heat. Stir continuously until melted. Add in the melted butter and mix. Go to step 2.
    10 ounces mini marshmallows, 6 tbsp butter, 1 tsp vanilla

Microwave Instructions:

  • Add all the marshmallows the butter to a large bowl with the butter. Heat on high power for one minute. Mix well, then heat at 30-second intervals, mixing in between, until the marshmallows are completly melted. Add vanilla and stir.
    10 ounces mini marshmallows, 6 tbsp butter, 1 tsp vanilla
  • Add the rice cereal to the melted marshmallow mixture and stir until all cereal is covered. Mix in the additional cup of marshmallows, Let the mixture cool for several minutes, then add the mini chocolate chips and gently stir.
    5 cups crispy rice cereal, 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  • Dump the chocolate krispie mixture into your pre-buttered baking dish.  Use a spatula to smooth out the mixture, then press it down with your fingertips. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the top of the squares.
  • Let cool and firm up, then cut into desired size. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Allow the marshmallow cereal mixture to cool a few minutes before adding the chocolate chips to prevent melting.
  • Firm up the bars in the refrigerator for ten minutes before cutting if desired.
  • Grease your spatula with butter to prevent the mixture from sticking.
  • Line your glass pan with wax paper for easy removal of the squares.
